Making things that customers need

Making things customers want is often one of the hardest things in product.

When you think you got it the needs change and consumer trends, adjust, and you find yourself on the look again for it

Y Combinator simplifies it down to “ speak to customers” and “write code”.

Speaking to customers is the obvious piece — you have to deeply understand their needs and problems. But you shouldn’t search for solutions from them.

Or at least you should consider a strong indication of a need if they tell you exactly what they want. But you can’t expect them to tell you the exact product that would fix their problems. Else would have perhaps fixed it already.

This is where a high degree of experimentation testing and demos comes in to play. Sometimes you can’t wait for a customer to tell you exactly what they want, you have to build the future for them.
